Recently I’ve had some time off of work and decided that I wanted to learn a little more about how to use Photoshop. I already have some of the basic working knowledge of how to manipulate/enhance/correct/etc. photos and images, so I wanted to go a little more in depth with it. And when it comes to cultivating any creative aspects of my life, I usually like to learn things hands on. I like to try then fail. Then learn from it. Repeat ad infinitum.

So I actually decided to work on a few old sketches of mine which I posted up here for your “viewing pleasure”. These really have nothing to do with what I’ve learned over the last week or so, as they utilize some of the most basic features of photoshop, but nonetheless, I quickly retouched on some these to quickly bring to life some of the projects I had sitting around. For the following designs, I was in a simple “fade to black” sort of mood at the time. I unfortunately don’t allocate much time to drawing nowadays, so keep your expectations in check – but I always do appreciate feedback nonetheless.

“ACoops” – Simply just an old sketch of my name.

“Spacer” – An old tribute to an old friend. Find me on the 112 at 1:12…

This photo contains an older “A” (my first initial) logo on the model. Liked how the pink popped. Maybe still a little too dark though.

“ACooper” – An old signature, in more of a quick tag style which I found in the archives lying around.

Another simple “AC” logo which I made a while back.

“Mattucci” – This was made for an old high school friend, 10 years late. She had asked me way back to make her a graffity inspired rendition of her name, and I pulled an asshole move on her by forgetting about her request and never actually made it. So I sent this to her for her birthday this year. The backdrop correlates to her aspirations she has to one day make her living in New York City.

REMEMBRANCE DAY TOPIX

Today is Remembrance Day. The one day of the year where we all take a bowed moment of silence to remember those who fought in the many wars which took place over the last couple hundreds of years.

I myself, as with millions around the world observe Remembrance day every year, however, personally I do strive to maintain mindfulness of the essence of this day throughout the year, day after day. I personally avoid words and phrases such as “to preserve our way of life” and “fought for our freedom” when in observance of today’s tribute, as I am aware of that there is much more to war than these emotionally charged statements make reference to and I believe we must be careful of the semantics used to describe war, death, and patriotic concepts.

I will not make this an opinion piece about war, soldiers, etc., but will ask that you personally try to keep in mind what has happened and is currently happening in the world today, while you go about your daily lives. Please do not allow yourself to simply buy a poppy each November and observe 2 minutes of silence on the 11th day, and believe that you have done your part. Lest we forget that war is taking place in many places around the globe at this exact moment. Children, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters are dying, and many more have died since you’ve started to read this post.

I also wanted to show you an excellent Remembrance Day design by Bryan Espiritu, founder of TheLegendsLeague. Do keep in mind that this is just a rough draft which he posted today.

“Today is Remembrance Day. I woke up a little upset that I hadn’t completed artwork that I was wanting to put out today as a tribute to those who fought for our freedom, so I briefly put together the concept to share with you all. I will be redoing this piece, but here it is for now.”
